1) However, fishing is limited so that it is prohibited to fish in rapids and running water in lakes and rivers populated by salmon, trout and whitefish (powan) or in other areas in which fishing is prohibited under other rules or regulations.

2) There can be a reel, unsuitable for casting, on the rod.

3) Provincial lure fishing can be prohibited by separate decisions in certain waters.

Payment of the fishing management fee

The fishing management fee (20 EUR for the calendar year 2005 or 6 EUR for seven days' fishing) must be paid before you start fishing through a self-service payment machine, through your home computer, or with an ordinary giro payment form available from banks, to the state giro account NORDEA 166030-101496. Payment is non-transferable. Keep the receipt with you when you go fishing. The seven day fishing period is counted from the day of payment or from another date entered separately on the payment receipt at the time of payment.

Provincial lure fishing fee (note 1) and 2) above)

Paying the lure fishing fee entitles you to practise lure fishing within a single province, using one rod, reel and lure. It is also permitted to use a single weighted lure or diving sinker for trolling. The provincial lure fishing fee for the calendar year 2005 is 27 EUR, 6 EUR for seven days' fishing. Payment is non-transferable and may be purchased for several provinces if desired.

The lure fishing fee must be paid before you start fishing, through a self-service payment machine, through your home computer, or with an ordinary giro payment form available from banks. Keep the receipt with you when you go fishing.

Each province has a separate giro account for the lure fishing fee. The account numbers are as follows:

Province of Southern Finland: Nordea 166030-106594
Province of Oulu Nordea: 166030-106628
Province of Western Finland: Nordea 166030-106602
Province of Lapland Nordea: 166030-106636
Province of Eastern Finland Nordea: 166030-106610

Permission given by owner of the water area

A permit sold by individual fishing districts, local fishery associations, municipalities, private owners or the National Forest and Park Service is required for lure fishing, other types of fishing and crayfishing. This also applies to fishing competitions. Please ask tour organisers and tourist information offices for further information.

The above mentioned regulations for fishing do not apply to Åland Islands. That region has its own fishing law in force.
