Noormarkku’s
and Pomarkku’s Traditional Canoe Trip 17.06.2006

The traditional canoe trip arranged by the Spare
Time Activities Office of Noormarkku and Pomarkku and by the Pomarkku-Noormarkku
Environmental Affairs Office was paddled from Veneskoski to Harjakoski
on June 17th, 2006. The function of trip guide was fulfilled by Mr Timo
Laine, a wilderness and nature guide with years of experience, whose expertise
we did need, for most of the canoers were fresh beginners this time.
A few whitewater sections added a pleasant amount
of extra speed and excitement to our trip, but we still did manage to
accomplish it without any significant damage, apart from a little sunburn,
muscle aches, and one failed “Eskimo turn”. The trip length
was about 13 km, and somewhere halfway, at Maja’s Bridge, before
crossing the open lake surface of Kynäsjärvi, we held a refreshing
coffee break.
The objective of arranging canoe trips was to make
new people familiar with the backwoods of canoeing as well as with the
opportunities for outdoor activities offered by the surrounding vicinities,
so hopefully some of the participants of this trip will grow fond of this
just introduced, fine, and rewarding recreational sport. The way how the
municipalities of Pomarkku and Noormarkku are situated near the water
routes of the Karvianjoki region allows you to select several canoe route
options of different difficulty levels, therefore there are extraordinarily
good opportunities to do this recreational sport in the very adjacent
vicinities. In this sport, it is worth to have some introductory training
first, taking your time using, for example, rent equipment, and to invest
in your own outfit only later, when you are already certain of the permanency
of your spare time sport activity.
